 Blood Component Separation Unit & Blood Bank – Hatuara Campus

The Blood Component Separation Unit and Blood Bank at Hatuara Campus of Deben Mahata Government Medical College & Hospital is an integrated transfusion medicine facility responsible for blood collection, processing, and component preparation under controlled laboratory conditions.

The unit ensures optimal utilization of donated blood by separating whole blood into its essential components and maintaining a continuous supply for both emergency and elective clinical requirements.

Core services include:

  • Blood collection, grouping, and screening
  • Crossmatching and compatibility testing
  • Component separation and preparation:
    • Packed Red Blood Cells (PRBC)
    • Fresh Frozen Plasma (FFP)
    • Cryoprecipitate (On prior demand)
    • Platelet components (including RDP where applicable)
  • Donor screening and transfusion-transmitted infection testing
  • Cold chain maintenance and inventory management
  • 24×7 emergency transfusion support

 Blood Storage Unit – Sadar Campus

The Sadar Campus of Deben Mahata Government Medical College & Hospital houses a dedicated Blood Storage Unit that functions as a critical extension of the central transfusion system.

This unit primarily focuses on safe storage and rapid issue of blood and blood components received from the Hatuara Blood Bank and Component Separation Unit.

Key functions include:

  • Storage and issue of PRBC, FFP, Cryoprecipitate, and platelets
  • Maintenance of strict temperature-controlled storage systems
  • Rapid issue of blood components for emergency cases
  • 24×7 availability for trauma, obstetric emergencies, surgeries, and ICU patients
  • Coordination with central blood bank and clinical departments

 

The Sadar Blood Storage Unit ensures immediate availability of life-saving blood components, particularly in emergency and time-sensitive clinical situations.
