About Deben Mahata Government Medical College & Hospital, Purulia

The Logo of Deben Mahata Government Medical College & Hospital. Purulia. West Bengal.

The emblem of Deben Mahata Government Medical College & Hospital (DMGMCH), Purulia embodies the institution's commitment to excellence in medical education, patient care, research, and community service. Every element of the logo reflects the values, heritage, and aspirations of the institution.

The stethoscope, forming the central framework of the emblem, symbolises the medical profession and represents compassionate healthcare, clinical excellence, and the enduring commitment of doctors to serve humanity.

At the heart of the emblem is the Purulia Chhau mask of Goddess Durga, a powerful symbol of the district's rich cultural heritage and one of its most celebrated artistic traditions. It represents strength, courage, wisdom, and resilience, reflecting the spirit with which healthcare professionals confront illness and adversity.

Beneath the Chhau mask lies the silhouette of the Ayodhya Hills, an iconic landmark of Purulia, symbolising the institution's deep connection with the land and the communities it serves.

Encircling the emblem is a laurel wreath, representing honour, academic excellence, achievement, and the continuous pursuit of knowledge in medicine and healthcare.

The inscription "ESTD. 2018" commemorates the establishment of the medical college, marking the beginning of a new era of medical education and specialised healthcare in western West Bengal.

The institutional motto, "मृत्योर्मा अमृतं गमय" (Mrityormā Amṛtaṃ Gamaya)—"Lead me from death to immortality"—is drawn from the Brihadaranyaka Upanishad. It reflects the timeless mission of medicine: to preserve life, relieve suffering, and advance healing through knowledge, compassion, and service.

Together, these elements represent the identity of Deben Mahata Government Medical College & Hospital—an institution rooted in the cultural heritage of Purulia while striving for excellence in education, research, and patient care.
